Yoga for Lower Back Pain

Yoga is often spruiked for its stress-relieving effects, but have you considered YOGA as an option to help manage your lower back pain? 

In 2016, Chang and colleagues performed a systematic literature review of 14 randomised controlled trials and concluded “It appears that Yoga is as effective as other non-pharmacologic treatments in reducing the functional disability of back pain. It appears to be more effective in reducing pain severity or “bothersomeness” of chronic lower back pain when compared to usual care or no care.”

They also went on to conclude “Yoga may have a positive effect on depression and other psychological co-morbidities, with the maintenance of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor and serotonin levels. Yoga appears to be an effective and safe intervention for chronic low back pain.”

As Physiotherapists, we have seen these benefits first-hand, which is why we frequently prescribe regular Yoga practice as part of the long-term management plan for many of our back pain patients.

We actually believe Yoga to be so beneficial that we have enlisted our very own Yoga instructor, Mike Hill, and offer two Yoga classes per week in our very own Studio in Samford Brisbane’s northside! Learn more about the benefits of yoga here.

Yoga Brisbane Northside: About our Classes

The Yoga classes at Inline Physio are designed for beginners to intermediate, those recovering from injury, or with chronic pain. Mike is dedicated to delivering a safe yet effective program and draws upon a wealth of knowledge in his field.

Also, our yoga classes are capped at six participants, so each person will receive proper attention and guidance with their poses.

When: Wednesday Evenings at 6pm and Saturday Mornings at 7am
Duration: 1 Hour
Cost: Casual Rate – $27.50 (inc GST) or purchase a 10-class pack and SAVE $55
