GLA:D® is a program of exercise and education designed to help reduce the symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. There are 12 supervised exercise sessions over 6 weeks, and 2 education sessions. Each session – education and exercise – will take about 60 minutes and has a limit of 6 participants per class.
GLA:D® has been shown to help people with mild, moderate, and severe osteoarthritis, and people over the age of 40 who have symptoms of osteoarthritis.
There are sets of exercises done by each person; everyone does the same exercises but in different ways. Our physiotherapist Joshua Smith who runs the GLA:D® program has been trained to customise the program to suit the individual – YOU.
Group classes will be held mainly on Monday and Thursdays at 11:30am. Extra classes may be added on Wednesday 11:30am and Friday 1pm depending on participant numbers.
Prior to beginning the Exercise Program, Josh will run you through a couple of standardized Baseline Tests and a Questionnaire. These same tests and the questionnaire are repeated 3 months later to help measure your response to the program.
This Assessment Session is a gap-free Physiotherapy appointment with Josh which you can book online or by calling the clinic- just mention when making the booking what the appointment is for.
Doing GLA:D® is just like doing any other physiotherapy treatment, and the cost depends on your individual circumstances.
The full cost of the 6-Week Program (14 sessions) is $630. This may be paid upfront or in fortnightly installments.
If you have Physiotherapy cover under your Private health insurance, you may be able to claim your sessions under Item Code 560 ‘Group Exercise’. Please call your health fund to find out what your rebate will be for each session.
Claiming your rebate: you will be emailed an invoice each week or a full statement at the end of the program – whichever you prefer. You then send this to your health fund electronically through their app or online.
As well as providing treatment for osteoarthritis, GLA:D® Australia collects research data from GLA:D® participants. We ask you to complete questionnaires before you start, at 3 months and again at 12 months, with information about your health and your experiences with osteoarthritis. This information will help to work towards improving access to best possible care for people with osteoarthritis.
If you are after more information about GLA:D specifically, you can check out the GLA:D AUSTRALIA WEBSITE.
