Struggling with Stress this Christmas?

December can bring joy, but for some, it can also be a source of stress. Juggling expectations, social gatherings, and year-end reflections can become overwhelming. If you’re feeling the pressure, know that you’re not alone.
Psychologist Nicole Little is here to offer some techniques to address stress collectively, beginning with cultivating awareness.

Identify Thoughts & Physical Symptoms

Notice your thoughts. Are they racing or on replay? Are you experiencing any physical symptoms like tension, headaches, or a tight chest? Acknowledging is the first step to change.

Alternative Thoughts & Cognitive Restructuring

Challenge negative thoughts as these aren’t helping you. Instead of “I must do everything perfectly,” shift to “I’ll do my best, and that’s enough.”

Breathing Technique for Physical Relief

Take a breather! Try the square or box breathing technique – inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold for 4. Repeat. It’s a simple yet powerful way to reset your nervous system and find calm.

Relaxation Exercise for Mind-Body Harmony

Indulge in a relaxation exercise. Whether it’s a short walk, gentle stretches, yoga, remedial massage, or listening to calming music, find what soothes you. Remember, your self-care and well-being is important, and not just a luxury.

Embrace this December with a mindset of self-compassion. You’re doing amazingly, and you deserve moments of calm.
