Not all Physios are created equally

Finding the right physio for your specific condition determines the likelihood of success. All too often when I’m in social situations, people say to me that “physio didn’t work for me”.  My reply to this is that “not all physios are created equally”.  I say this because often they have seen another physiotherapist and have not had the results they expected or they have not understood how things were explained to them.  So why is it that not all physio’s are created equally?

There are a number of reasons why each individual physiotherapist will differ in their assessment and treatment styles and even in how they explain things.  We all go to university and do pretty much the same course no matter where your physiotherapist went.  But once we get out into the workforce, that’s where things start to change.

 1. We do different courses

Every physio has different interests and will do different professional development courses to follow and develop those interests.  There are so many courses to choose from it is impossible for every physiotherapist to do them all.  You want your physiotherapist to do courses in the area that interests them because they will be passionate about it and bring that with them to your sessions.

2. We Have our Own Injuries

nothing teaches you more than having your own injury and working out what techniques worked for you. If your physiotherapist has had the same injury as you then there an excellent chance that they will be brilliant at fixing your injury as well.

3. We See Different Patients

Believe it or not, the patients that we see from when we were a new graduate until today also shape the type of physiotherapist we are. The more patients that we see with similar injuries the better we are at picking the patterns of the injury and knowing what needs to be done.

4. We have Different Levels and Areas of Experience

Now obviously your physiotherapist cannot have every injury or do every course, but their wealth of knowledge also comes from the patients that they have seen over the years. If your problem is more complicated then it becomes more important to see a physio that has an interest in your area, but also one that has experience in years in the area as well because chances are, they’ve helped more patients with your condition!

If you have seen a physiotherapist and your condition has not improved, then I say to you that it is time to find a physiotherapist that can help you.  We are not all created equally and you just need to find the right physio; not just personality-wise, but injury and experience-wise as well.

If you have done lots of googling about your current pain and everything points towards physiotherapy as a thing that should be able to help your problem, then I say find a physio that is right for you right now!

We’re confident that with the range of experience in our clinics, you will find a Physio that CAN help you!
